    Dry Grad Parent Meeting

    The first dry grad parent meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 8th, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the KSS(lower campus) library. All parents of grade 12 students are welcome to attend.

    School Photo Day this Thursday!

    This Thursday September 25th is photo day for all students. This photo will appear on your school ID and in the yearbook. You will receive order forms when you are photographed, so there is no money being collected at this time.  All you need to bring is your best smile.

    This Friday September 26, 2014 is a regular school day. The Pro-D day for September has been rescheduled to Monday, November 10th. The block rotation for this Friday is BCDA.

    New Provincial Standards on Diabetes and Diabetes Website 

    New website on diabetes has been created to provide an easy access to information and resources. It includes the Provincial Standards: Supporting Students with Type 1 Diabetes in the School Setting document, developed by the Ministries of Children and Family Development, Health and Education, in consultation with parents, education staff and health professionals, and a number of other stakeholders.

    Anaphylaxis e-Training

    Today, a new bilingual web portal was launched with online courses focused on the prevention, recognition and management of anaphylaxis in the community. It includes free interactive courses for different audiences, including schools, parents/guardians and others, and child care centres. The version for schools is introduced first– to provide administrators, teachers and other school staff with key information and resources to help protect students at risk of anaphylaxis. The other course versions are planned for 2015. Anaphylaxis Canada will be sending letters to all public schools in Canada to inform them of the new resource.     BC Youth Mental Health Project

    Doctors of BC recently released its policy paper Reaching Out: Supporting Youth Mental Health in British Columbia and launched its new website OpenMindBC.ca. The website contains mental health tools and resources for youth, families, teachers, physicians, and other health care providers. As a measure to continue to raise awareness in schools and communities, there is also a promotional package available with downloadable informational posters of student’s original artwork representing what youth mental health and wellbeing mean to them.

    Be Smart Don’t Choke Website

    As part of BC Children's Hospital/UBC Initiative, the BC Smart Don’t Choke website aims to increase public awareness about choking hazards and improve the safety of consumer goods. The website was designed to educate and support youth and families in such areas as identifying types of choking, ways to save lives, assessing who’s at risk and sharing family stories. The website materials are available in Spanish and Mandarin with 8 other language translations soon to be available.

    FIRST DAY OF CLASSES......Monday, Sept 22nd

    On Monday, September 22nd classes will begin at 10:30 for students.  Upon arrival students will locate their name on the lists posted around the school (office, hallways, cafeteria windows, etc.) to find their Homeroom.  The Homeroom teachers will have a printed schedule for each student.  Parents/Guardians are reminded to call the school to report any absences.

    The following is the bell schedule for Monday, September 22nd.

    10:30 - 11:30    Block A
    11:45 to 12:30  Block B
    12:30 - 1:15      Lunch
    1:15 - 2:00       Block C
    2:15 - 3:00       Block D

    South Kamloops Titan Fall Athletics

    As of right now, South Kamloops will continue as best we can with the Fall Athletic teams and schedules. With the late start and potentially shorter season a plan will be put in place soon. Teams and schedules will be announced as soon it is known what will happen with the Fall Sports season. South Kamloops Athletics falls under the West Zone Athletic Association, Okanagan Valley Athletic Association, and BC School Sports. All of these organizations will work towards providing an athletic season as best as possible.

    Sr Boys Soccer - no coach

    Field Hockey - Mr. Dhaliwal

    Sr Girls Volleyball - Ms. DuMont (try-outs and practices start this Monday)

    Gold Girls Volleyball - no coach (meeting and practices to be held first week back)

    Silver Girls Volleyball - no coach (meeting and practices to be held first week back)

    Grade 8 Girls Volleyball - no coach (meeting and practices to be held first week back)

    Grade 8 Boys Volleyball - no coach (meeting and practices to be held first week back)

    Grade 8 Orientation Postponed

    Due to the uncertain labour situation, the Grade 8 Orientation which usually takes place in August will be postponed.  An alternate orientation session will be planned once school is in session.  Further information will be posted as it becomes available.

    Parents/Guardians should monitor closely the district website, news media outlets and synrevoice messages from the school district to remain current on the process for school opening this year.
